Asia Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Counter-Terrorism Dialogue

The UN Counter Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (MOFA) are convening a two-day terrorism and information communication technologies.

CPJ research has found that journalists and press freedom are threatened both by terrorism but also by government response to terrorism, which have resulted in online censorship, restrictive legislation, calls for privatizing censorship, and even the jailing of journalists. CPJ advocacy director Courtney Radsch will participate in a panel on UN Security Council efforts to counter terrorist use of ICT – developing “comprehensive international framework” to ensure that any such frameworks include sufficient protection for journalists and the platforms they depend on to do their work.
