CPJ Delegation In Vladivostok to Support Journalist Grigory Pasko

New York, June 1, 2001 — CPJ representatives who traveled to Russia to show support for embattled investigative reporter Grigory Pasko are in Vladivostok to meet with the journalist and his defense team over the weekend in preparation for his upcoming trial.

Pasko faces charges of treason and revealing state secrets for leaking information to the Japanese television station NHK about the Russian Fleet’s dumping of nuclear waste in the Sea of Japan.

CPJ board member Peter Arnett and CPJ Europe program consultant Emma Gray plan to accompany the journalist and his lawyers to the Pacific Fleet Military Courthouse at 10 am on Monday June 4 for the scheduled start of the trial.

“We are by his side to demonstrate our solidarity with Grigory Pasko and to demand justice for him,” Arnett said. “And we will support him until justice is done.”
