We issued the following statement in response to media reports today from Iran of repeated disruptions in mobile communications and Internet services, and an Interior Ministry ban on foreign reporters covering “illegal protests” without prior permission…
“The Iranian authorities are trying to stifle coverage of dissent by essentially preventing foreign reporters and film crews from covering street protests, and repeatedly disrupting telecommunications,” said CPJ Middle East and North Africa Program Coordinator Mohamed Abdel Dayem. “This crude censorship must end immediately and all journalists, foreign and domestic, should be allowed to cover the historic news unfolding in Iran.”
