New York, October 26, 2022 – On Tuesday, November 1, the Committee to Protect Journalists will publish its annual Impunity Index, a list of countries where journalists are routinely murdered and their killers often go free. The launch of the report, “Killing with Impunity: Vast Majority of Journalists’ Murderers Go Free,” comes one day before the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, on November 2, 2022.
The publication of the Impunity Index also coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity. The initiative was implemented with the aim of developing measures to promote increased protections for journalists and justice in the face of anti-press violence. Since its adoption in 2012, issues of violence towards journalists and impunity have continued to proliferate globally.
