Tayyara, a videographer and photojournalist who contributed to Agence France-Presse and other international outlets, was killed by government forces' fire in the city of Homs.
He was reporting from Al-Khaldiyeh neighborhood when government forces shelled the district, the news website Citizenside reported. As Tayyara assisted people injured in the blast, "a second volley of shells fell and he was hit," a friend told AFP. The journalist sustained multiple severe injuries and died in the hospital within hours, news reports said.
