Warsame, 24, was killed at 7:30 a.m. during renewed fighting in the capital, Mogadishu, according to CPJ interviews and news accounts. The Radio Shabelle station producer was shot in crossfire in the morning during gunfire between Transitional Federal Government forces and hard-line Islamic insurgents in southern Mogadishu.    

According to local journalists, the shelling was so intense no one could pick up Warsame's body for over half an hour. Warsame was scheduled to present the morning news bulletins, Station Director Moqtar Mohamed Hirabe told CPJ.

The reporter is survived by his wife of six months.
