Hamid Mahiout

Mahiout, a reporter for the independent, French-language daily Liberté, and Ahmed Belkhefellah, his driver, were kidnapped and killed by unknown assailants. They were found dead the following morning in the Rais Hamidou neighborhood in Algiers. Colleagues report that Mahiout and Belkhefellah were decapitated, their heads impaled on spikes and their bodies stacked on top of each other.
