Guida da Silva, owner of the weekly A Gazeta de São Fidélis in the city of São Fidélis, northwest of Rio de Janeiro, was shot dead in front of his house by two hooded men riding a motorbike. Guida da Silva's father reported that the journalist received death threats for articles he had written accusing the president of the local municipal council of corruption. No one has been apprehended.
