Said Mekbel

Mekbel, editor-in-chief of the independent, French-language daily Le Matin, was shot in the head by unknown assailants as he ate in a restaurant near his paper's offices in downtown Algiers. He went into a coma and died the next morning. The Armed Islamic Group claimed responsibility for his murder.
