L'Hebdo Libéré
March 20, 1994, in Algiers, Algeria
Yacef, a photojournalist with the independent French-language weekly L'Hebdo Libéré, was killed when men armed with automatic weapons and disguised as policemen raided the paper's Algiers offices and opened fire. A driver with the paper, Rachid Benhaddou, was also killed, and three other employees were seriously wounded. The attack came on a Monday, the day the paper goes to press. Normally, the magazine's director is present on Mondays, but that morning he was attending the funeral of slain journalist Djamel Benzaghou. The center-left weekly is anti-fundamentalist.Medium: Print
