Third journalist killed in Somalia this year

New York, May 22, 2009--Following news that Abdirisak Warsame Mohamed of Radio Shabelle was shot to death today in the crossfire of government and militia forces in the capital, MogadishuCPJ issued this statement:

"CPJ sends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Abdirisak Warsame at Radio Shabelle," said CPJ Africa Program Coordinator Tom Rhodes. "We call on both sides of the conflict to take measures to protect journalists and allow them to carry out their work." 

Warsame is the third journalist killed in Somalia this year and the third Radio Shabelle journalist killed since 2007. Somalia is the second most dangerous country in the world to be a journalist.

We have to get these two journalist home otherwise they are going to die in captivity if they are not dead already.
