Politkovskaya trial re-opened to media

After Judge Yevgeny Zubov overturned a ban on the press attending the trial of three suspects in the murder of Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya, we released the following statement...

"The public, the press and even the jurors in this trial want the hearing open to the media," said CPJ Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova. "Fairness demands that there be no veil of secrecy. We trust that the Moscow District Military Court will follow the example of the jurors and exercise its independence. Only then can our murdered colleague Anna Politkovskaya receive justice."
