Gunshots were fired into the home of Abra province
journalist Marjorie Bandayrel-Trinidad on May 14, 2009, according to a local
press freedom group and news reports. Bandayrel-Trinidad and her husband and
child were unhurt, the reports said. Abra is in the north of the
Bullets shattered the window of the journalist's bedroom in the early hours of the morning, one lodging in her bed, according to the reports.
Bandayrel-Trinidad, a former radio commentator, writes for a community newspaper, Abra Today, which is funded by a local church, according to local news reports. She told the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, a local press freedom group, that she had been threatened the day before the attack for publishing an article alleging corruption at a local electric company.
Police said they were providing the journalist with security and investigating the possible link between that article and the shooting, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
