CPJ’s Recommendations

CPJ calls on the government of President Evo Morales to implement the following recommendations

  • Ensure that constitutional reforms do not restrict freedom of the press. Support efforts to strengthen constitutional guarantees of free expression.
  • Show greater tolerance of criticism in the media. Refrain from disparaging individual journalists and media outlets. Refrain from labeling critics as “enemies.”
  • Call on social and political groups that support the government to stop harassing and attacking journalists who are covering street protests and other public events.

  • Ensure that state media adhere to their charter by serving the interests of all Bolivians and not the narrow partisan interests of the administration.
