Brazil restricts access to government information amid COVID-19 emergency

Rio de Janeiro, March 26, 2020 — Brazilian authorities should not use the coronavirus crisis as an excuse to restrict access to government information, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

Rio de Janeiro, February 12, 2020 — The Committee to Protect Journalists today condemned the online harassment campaign against Brazilian journalist Patrícia Campos Mello.

Brazilian prosecutor should drop charges against Glenn Greenwald

Rio de Janeiro, January 22, 2020–Brazilian authorities should immediately drop charges against Intercept Brasil co-founder and editor Glenn Greenwald and refrain from prosecuting journalists for their communication with sources, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

Rio de Janeiro, January 10, 2020 — Brazilian authorities must promptly investigate alleged police harassment and attacks against journalists covering protests in São Paulo, and ensure that reporters can safely cover demonstrations, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.
