CPJ welcomes Natalie Southwick as Central and South America program coordinator

New York, July 2, 2018–The Committee to Protect Journalists is pleased to announce that Natalie Southwick has been named CPJ’s Central and South America program coordinator. Southwick will lead efforts to report, monitor, and advocate on press freedom issues in South and Central America, and the Caribbean.

“Natalie has already played an important part in shaping our work in South and Central America and the Caribbean,” said CPJ Program Director Carlos Martinez de la Serna. “We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationships with partners in the region, and advocate on behalf of journalists and press freedom.”

Southwick had served as CPJ’s Americas researcher since 2017. Prior to joining CPJ, she was based in Bogotá, Colombia, where she was a member of Witness for Peace’s international accompaniment team, a reporting specialist with ACDI/VOCA’s Afro-Colombian and Indigenous program, and the editor of a website focused on Latin American news.
