CPJ to release report on press freedom, internet freedom, impunity, and censorship in Brazil
New York, April 24, 2014–The Committee to Protect Journalists will release a special report on the press freedom climate in Brazil as the country gears up to host the World Cup this summer, followed by the Olympics in 2016. The report examines Brazil’s steps to combat impunity in journalist murders; the persistence of judicial censorship; and Internet legislation, known as the Internet bill of rights, that was approved by Congress this week as a major Internet governance conference was underway. The report will be released online in English and Portuguese and presented at a panel discussion in Brasília on May 6, 2014.
