Five years after the July 9, 2004 murder of journalist Paul Klebnikov, we released the following statement…
“Paul Klebnikov loved Russia and sought through his journalism to hold the powerful to account,” said CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon. “It is deeply ironic, therefore, that five years after his murder those who perpetrated this terrible crime are still at large. This is a moment for Paul’s friends, family, and colleagues to remember him, and reflect on his lasting contribution to Russian society. Authorities in Russia should honor his legacy by bringing his murderers to justice.”
Klebnikov, the founding editor of Forbes Russia, is one of 17 journalists killed in Russia since 2000.
