Mboula, a cameraman with private broadcaster Télé Africa was assaulted by police officers while filming an anti-government march against price hikes in the capital Libreville, according to news reports and local journalists.
Officers pounced on Mboula, beating him with clubs and seizing his camera after he filmed riot police assault Jean-Robert Menié, the spokesman for a coalition of civil society organizations leading the march, according to the same sources.
Mboula was hospitalized for six days after suffering three broken ribs and was ordered to take 15 days of mandatory medical leave from work, according to local journalists.
His footage was never returned.
