Ricky Carandang, ABS-CBN network

Carandang said he received death threats via cell phone while in Lanao del Norte, a province in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The threats came a day after he reported that officials in the provincial treasurer’s office in the provincial capital, Lanao del Sur, had complained that the Commission on Elections had improperly taken blank election returns. His report was broadcast on the May 28 edition of the news program, “TV Patrol.” Carandang also said his local guides had received calls from people inquiring about his whereabouts.
