U.S. immigration releases Pakistani journalist

In response to news that Pakistani Voice of America reporter Rahman Bunairee was released after 10 days in U.S. immigrant detention, we issued this statement…

“CPJ is relieved that Rahman Bunairee has been released,” said CPJ Deputy Director Robert Mahoney. “Bunairee worked as a reporter on the frontlines of a conflict of strategic importance to the United States and was brought to Washington by the U.S.-funded Voice of America. We hope that his status in the U.S. will be resolved quickly so he can resume his work as a journalist.”
