CPJ welcomes open trial in Politkovskaya case

In response to the decision today of the Moscow District Military Court to open the trial of three men in the killing of Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya to the public, we issued the following statement...

"We are relieved that the trial of these three defendants will be open to the public, and hope that the proceedings will be fair," CPJ's Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova said. "But this is only the beginning. Prosecutors must now move aggressively to find the killer and mastermind behind this crime, and deliver justice for Anna Politkovskaya."
