Mexico City, May 4, 2017– Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto today pledged to prioritize combating impunity in the murders of journalists for the remainder of his term, which ends next year. He said the safety and protection of journalists would also be a priority.

Unknown assailants shot and killed Rodríguez on April 14 in the northern Mexican city of La Paz, according to his employer.

Unidentified assailants attacked the home of Mexican journalist Gabriel Valencia Juárez at about 10:15 p.m. on December 31, 2016, according to media reports.
