Who killed Floribert Chebeya, the president of the leading DRC human rights group La Voix des Sans Voix, and his driver, Fidèle Bazana, in June 2010 in Kinshasa? A few runaway police officers, according to the military tribunal that judged the case and issued its sentences one year later. A few bad apples, who acted on their own, without any order from their hierarchy.

New York, le 24 novembre 2008--Suite à l'assassinat vendredi dernier d'un journaliste congolais en République démocratique du Congo (RDC), le Comité pour la protection des journalistes (CPJ) a déclaré aujourd'hui que la police de ce pays devrait faire une enquête approfondie et transparente sur ce meurtre.

Three sentenced in Congolese journalist's murder

In DRC, photojournalist assassinated

New York, August 10, 2007— A respected freelance photojournalist in eastern DRC was gunned down on Thursday evening as he returned home from covering a local conference on environmental protection, local journalists told CPJ.

CPJ is investigating whether Patrick Kikuku Wilungula—the second journalist killed in Congo’s volatile east this year after Serge Maheshe—was murdered for his work

Police in Congo arrest suspects in journalist’s murder

New York, June 14, 2007— Police arrested two suspects today in the killing of a broadcaster for United Nations-sponsored Radio Okapi in the eastern border town of Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the station’s journalists told CPJ.

CPJ is investigating to determine whether Serge Maheshe was killed because of his work as a journalist.

En RDC, la police interpelle des suspects dans le meurtre d’un journaliste

New York, le 14 juin 2007—La police a interpellé aujourd’hui deux individus suspectés d’avoir abattu un journaliste de Radio Okapi, une station parrainée par les Nations Unies, dans la ville frontalière de Bukavu, à l’est de la République Démocratique du Congo, ont déclaré les journalistes de la station au CPJ.

Le CPJ enquête actuellement sur un lien entre l’assassinat de Serge Maheshe et son travail de journaliste.
