Body of missing Veracruz crime reporter Anabel Flores Salazar found in neighboring state

New York, February 9, 2016--The body of Anabel Flores Salazar, a reporter for El Sol de Orizaba who was abducted from her home near the city of Orizaba in Veracruz on Monday, was found today in the neighboring state of Puebla, according to a Puebla state official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter. The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Mexican federal authorities to take over investigation and prosecution of the crime and to consider journalism as a motive.

Mexican crime reporter abducted in Veracruz

New York, February 8, 2016--The Committee to Protect Journalists is concerned for the safety of Anabel Flores Salazar, a Mexican crime reporter who was abducted from her home in Orizaba, Veracruz state, at about 2 a.m. today by armed men who claimed to have an arrest warrant for her, according to reports. The general prosecutor for Veracruz released a statement saying it is investigating the disappearance.

New York, February 1, 2016 -- The fatal shooting of senior Afghan broadcast journalist Mohammad Zubair Khaksar on Friday and the beating of freelance reporter Yahya Jawahari on Sunday further raise concerns for the safety of Afghan journalists, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. The attacks follow a suicide bombing attack on employees of the Kabul station Tolo TV that killed at least seven people.

CPJ condemns attack on Tolo TV employees in Afghanistan

New York, January 20, 2016--A suicide bombing in Kabul today killed seven employees from the Afghan station Tolo TV, according to news reports and the station. The attack on staff returning from work at the privately owned station injured 27 others, including 26 staff, according to Tolo TV. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. In October, CPJ documented how a Taliban website threatened journalists associated with Tolo TV and the Afghan broadcaster 1TV with "elimination."

Freelance journalist killed by Saudi coalition airstrike in Yemen

New York, January 19, 2016--The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the killing of Almigdad Mojalli. The Yemeni freelance journalist was killed by a Saudi-led coalition airstrike outside the capital of Sanaa on Sunday morning while on assignment for Voice of America, the outlet reported this weekend.

Unknown gunmen kill two Iraqi journalists

But that sanctuary is now under threat.
