CPJ concerned about US detention of Iranian TV journalist

New York, January 17, 2019–The Committee to Protect Journalists today expressed concern about the detention of Marzieh Hashemi, a TV anchor and documentary filmmaker for the English-language service of Iranian state broadcaster Press TV, and called on the U.S. Department of Justice to disclose the reason for her arrest.

New York, January 17, 2019–Authorities in Ghana should immediately investigate the killing of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale Divela and ensure that threats against the press are taken seriously, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

New York, January 16, 2019–The Committee to Protect Journalists today called on the Libyan National Army to release journalist Ismail Bouzreeba al-Zway, who was detained December 20 in the eastern Libyan city of Ajdabiya, according to news reports, local press organizations, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

New York, January 15, 2019–A Montenegro court today convicted investigative journalist Jovo Martinović of drug trafficking and being a member of a criminal group, and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, regional media reported. The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the sentence and called on authorities to not contest the journalist’s appeal.

Bangkok, January 11, 2019–A Myanmar court upheld today the conviction of Reuters news agency reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, both of whom are serving seven year sentences for violating the Official Secrets Act, Reuters reported.

In Nigeria, three journalists injured by gunfire while covering political rally
