Assailants threw two homemade bombs at the offices of Puthiya Thalaimurai, an independent Tamil television station in Chennai, the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, early on March 12, 2015, according to news reports. No one was injured, and the offices did not suffer any damage.
Police said the bombs were made out of firecrackers, according to news reports. The same day, police arrested at least four suspects, including the president of a conservative Hindu group, who claimed responsibility in court for the attack.
On March 11, 2015, Puthiya Thalaimurai canceled the scheduled broadcast of a show that debated whether traditional jewelry given to women at their wedding ceremony was still relevant in a modern society, according to news reports. Members and supporters of conservative Hindu groups had protested the airing of the broadcast in the days leading up to the attack, news reports said.
