Corrective: Journalist reported killed in Peshawar is alive

New York, June 15, 2011–Pakistani journalist Shafiullah Khan is in critical condition after suffering extensive burns in a double bombing in Peshawar on Saturday. CPJ erroneously reported on Monday that Khan had died in the attack.

Yousaf Ali, general secretary of the Khyber Union of Journalists, said Khan suffered burns over 70 percent of his body and was being treated at a burn center near Rawalpindi.

Thirty-six people died in the suicide attack, among them Asfandyar Khan, a journalist who worked for several media organizations, most recently the newspaper Akhbar-e-Khyber.  The attack took place in a predominantly military area where many major Pakistani media organizations also have their offices.
