Radio Nuevo Mundo
ATTACKED

An unidentified individual fired a gunshot into the offices of the Guatemala City-based Radio Nuevo Mundo in the afternoon of September 4, the station’s director Marbin Robledo told CPJ. No one was injured.

Robledo said the gunshot was fired from the building’s roof into the editorial room, and landed close to one of the station’s reporters. The station’s staff believes the shot was meant to intimidate them because of its generally critical coverage of Guatemala’s presidential campaign five days before elections, said Robledo. However, the director said Radio Nuevo Mundo had not received any recent threats.

Robledo told CPJ he had informed the Public Ministry about the attack.
