Ugandan journalist Joy Doreen Biira charged with 'abetting terrorism'

Nairobi, November 30, 2016--Ugandan authorities should immediately and unconditionally drop all charges against Kenya Television Network (KTN) reporter and anchor Joy Doreen Biira, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. Police detained Biira on November 27 after she reported on a deadly battle between police and a traditional monarch's royal guard, charged her with "abetting terrorism," and released her pending trial the following day, she and her lawyer told CPJ.

Nairobi, September 5, 2013--A TV journalist has received death threats twice this week following his coverage of wrongdoing at a hospital in the western Kenyan town of Bungoma, according to the journalist and news reports. The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on authorities to immediately investigate the threats and ensure the reporter's safety.

New York, December 9, 2011--The Committee to Protect Journalists is concerned about the safety of Kenyan reporter Robert Wanyonyi who has been repeatedly threatened after covering a melee between police and local villagers that left as many as seven people dead.
