Istanbul police raided the houses of Murat Ağırel, a columnist for the leftist daily Cumhuriyet and commentator for the online outlet Onlar TV, and fellow commentator Timur Soykan and took them into custody April 10, 2025, after their reporting on alleged corruption.
The authorities took action due to a complaint by a man in prison whom the journalists claimed to be involved with bribery, Soykan said.
The two journalists were released by a court the next day pending investigation under judicial control.
