Helge Hummelvoll

Hummelvoll, a freelance journalist on assignment for Norwegian Church Aid, was killed in the region of eastern Equatoria in southern Sudan. He and a Burmese relief worker were shot in the back at close range. Rival factions of the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Army, which is fighting against the government of Lt. Gen. Omar Hassan al-Bashir, blamed each other for the murders.
