Turki was driving Amjad Hameed, the head of Iraq’s state television channel , when their car was ambushed in central Baghdad by gunmen apparently
affiliated to Al-Qaeda. Hameed was hit in the head and chest and died
instantly. Turki died later in the hospital.
Al-Iraqiya,
which receives funding from the
government, has frequently been the target of insurgent attacks. CPJ has
documented the killing of at least six journalists and five media workers from
the station and its affiliates since 2004.
