Mabwava, a correspondent for the Kinshasa-based radio station Digital Congo FM in the western province of Bandundu, was arrested and held for two days by the provincial public prosecutor. According to the Kinshasa-based press freedom organization Journaliste en Danger (JED), Mabwava was accused of “insulting” the governor of Bandundu, Gérard Gifuza Ginday, in an article about corruption.

Mabwava was freed on July 14 after paying a fine equivalent to US$23, and was not formally charged, JED reported.
