Jailing the messengers in Iran

By Lauren Wolfe/Deputy Editor on July 17, 2009 10:40 AM ET

My friend and colleague Iason Athanasiadis spent three weeks in an Iranian prison last month. In the ongoing roundups of journalists since the June 12 election, Iason has seen his own friends and colleagues thrown in jail, including Majid Saeedi, a freelance photographer for Getty Images.

On Tuesday, Iason published a piece on GlobalPost about Majid, drawing a portrait of a photographer who "does not see bearded or chador-clad masses, does not construct cliches for public consumption" but who is instead "in the business of individuals whose humanity he conjures brilliantly and kindly."

I urge you to read his thoughtful article, "Iran: Jailing the Messengers," in full here
