Jake Adelstein was a police reporter for the Yomiuri Shinbun, Japan’s largest newspaper, from 1993 to 2005. From 2006 to 2007 he was the chief investigator for a U.S. State Department-sponsored study of human trafficking in Japan. He is currently the public relations director for the Washington, D.C.-based Polaris Project Japan, which combats the exploitation of women and children in the sex trade. His book Tokyo Vice: An American on the Police Beat in Japan was published in paperback this month. He is also the assistant editor for www.japansubculture.com which covers the anti-organized crime movement in Japan.
