CPJ has established advisory groups for its programs. The groups, which are made up of leading journalists, experts, and press freedom advocates, provide feedback on CPJ programs’ key advocacy proposals and strategies. The groups’ members also advise CPJ staff on how to achieve greater impact and help CPJ gain access and increase outreach in countries where they have influence and expertise.
Americas Advisory Group
- Andrés Oppenheimer, columnist for The Miami Herald, host of “Oppenheimer Presenta” on CNN, and chair of CPJ’s Americas Advisory Group
- Rosental Calmon Alves, director of the Knight Center for Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin
- Ricardo Uceda, executive director of the Lima-based Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (Institute for Press and Society), or IPYS

- Miklós Haraszti, former OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and current United Nations special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus
- Maria (Masha) Lipman, Russian media and policy analyst and editor of the Russian-language journal Counterpoint
- Andrei Soldatov, Russian investigative journalist, author, and editor of Agentura.ru, a news platform specializing in Russia’s intelligence services
- Borja Bergareche, director of innovation at the Spanish media holding company Vocento and a longtime CPJ consultant

- Lina Ejeilat, co-founder and executive editor of 7iber, an online magazine that covers Jordan and the Arab world
- Yara Bader, journalist, human rights activist, and co-founder of the Syrian Centre for Media and Freedom of Expression
