Honoré Kabongo, Radiotélévision Kintuadi (RTK)
IMPRISONED

Kabongo, the host of a news talk show with the religious TV station, was released without charge after four days in detention, according to local press freedom group Journaliste en Danger (JED) and RTK administrative director Adelin Mboma. He had been arrested in his studio on November 25, along with cameraman Bienvenu Ngizulu, who was released shortly afterwards. Security forces interrupted a show in which Kabongo was commenting on insecurity in the capital, according to CPJ sources. Police had accused him of “inciting hatred,” according to the same sources.

Police had claimed the program’s theme could incite civil unrest following the announcement of presidential poll results, according to Mboma. But Kabongo had merely alleged a link between power cuts and the incidence of violent crime, Mboma told CPJ.
