The bodies of Runi and her husband, Golam Mustofa Sarowar,
were found by their 5-year-old son in their home, news reports said.
Both journalists had been hit repeatedly with sharp weapons, according to news
reports. Sarowar's hands were tied behind his back, and no valuables were
missing.
Runi was a senior reporter at the Dhaka-based ATN Bangla Television. Sarowar, a news editor at the Maasranga Television, also in Dhaka, had recently returned to Bangladesh from Germany, where he had worked for the German public news outlet Deutsche Welle.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed shock at the murders, and ordered Home Minister Shahara Khatun to press police to arrest the killers within 48 hours, according to news reports. No arrests were reported, however, and a motive was not known.
Motive Unconfirmed: CPJ is investigating to determine whether the death was work-related.
