CPJ joins Pakistani groups in condemning Express attack

The Committee to Protect Journalists has joined the Alliance for Access, a coalition of Pakistani media groups, academic and student organizations, and telecommunications companies working to promote open access, in condemning Monday’s attack on the offices of Express Media Group in Karachi.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the Express Media Group office during the evening. The motive remains unclear, news reports said. While no journalists were injured, two guards were wounded, according to Express Tribune journalist Sarah Munir, who spoke to CPJ.

This is the second attack on Express’s Karachi offices in recent months, and it underscores the dire need for enhanced security for news organizations in one of the deadliest countries in the world for journalists.
