Valiev, a reporter with the state-owned, Uzbek-language Khalqi Ovozi, was killed in the summer of 1993. An armed band loyal to the Tajik government may have killed him. Valiev was a member of Tajikistan's Uzbek minority.Motive Unconfirmed: CPJ is investigating to determine whether the death was work-related.
