Carlos Alberto Morales, Radio Ángel
THREATENED

Morales, a reporter for the San Antonio Huista-based Radio Ángel, told CPJ he was threatened with death by the local mayor after reporting on local government corruption.

Morales said that local Mayor Bernardo Adalberto Jiménez López broke into his home in the northwestern Huehuetenango province around 8 p.m. The mayor insulted Morales with coarse language and threatened to kill him. The reporter believes the threat is linked to reports aired February 5 and 6 on alleged corruption in the general comptroller’s office and in the municipal treasury.

Morales told CPJ that he filed charges against the mayor before the National Police.
