Explosive device thrown at journalist’s home in Peru

Unidentified assailants threw an explosive device at the house of a Peruvian journalist at 2 a.m. on December 10, 2013, according to news reports.

The explosion destroyed the door and windows of the house and caused material damage to furniture inside, but no one was injured, according to the local press group Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS). The attack took place in the city of Huancayo in the central Junín region.

Edvan Ríos Chanca writes for the newsmagazine Hidebrandt en sus Trece and, until a few months ago, had worked for several years as a journalist with the daily Diario Correo, where he frequently denounced local government corruption, according to the reports.
