TV station attacked during civil unrest

ATTACKED

Amid violence between anti- and pro-government groups in Karachi, the independent station’s office came under fire from what media reports identified as pro-government supporters. At least 34 people were reported killed in the unrest.

Shamim-ur Rahman, president of the Karachi Union of Journalists said in a public statement that “Muttahida Qaumi Movement supporters [allied to President Pervez Musharraf] in Karachi targeted the private television channel Aaj TV in Karachi for six hours on Saturday, firing bullets that hit its news room, endangering many of its workers.”
