Canal 7

ATTACKED

Unidentified assailants flung two home-made bombs at the offices of Canal 7, a state-owned television station in the eastern city of Santa Cruz. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited.

Local press reports said the attack occurred at 3 a.m. One of the explosives shattered a window, while the other exploded against an outside wall, causing a small fire that was put out at once by the station’s security guards.

The station’s regional director, Sandro Jaramillo, told local reporters that Canal 7 had received threatening telephone calls before the attack. The unidentified callers warned the station that it would face consequences for not giving positive coverage to a general strike led by a local group, Unión Juvenil Cruceñista.

Local authorities began an investigation, press reports said.
