Concepción Rodríguez Parra, Radio Lobo

ATTACKED

Rodríguez, who works for “En la mira,” a weekly program on Radio Lobo that criticizes local authorities, was attacked by unidentified assailants in the southern state of Veracruz.

Two individuals assaulted Rodríguez as she was stepping off a bus in front of Poza Rica’s City Hall at around 11 a.m., according to local press reports. One of the assailants warned Rodríguez to “stop talking about water and garbage.”

Rodríguez was punched in the face, suffering a bruised lip, the local press reported. The attackers ran away after a bystander screamed for help.

Rodríguez has covered social issues in Poza Rica and has been critical of local authorities. Rodríguez told CPJ that she has received anonymous threats on several occasions. A day after the attack, Rodríguez filed a complaint.
